KUCHING, Sept 5: The construction of a new hostel, classrooms, and other facilities at SMK Engkilili in Lubok Antu is progressing well at a rate of 61 per cent and is expected to be completed by next February.
According to a media release from the Ministry of Works, the project, which began on May 2, 2023, and is valued at approximately RM22.5 million, involves the construction of an academic block with six classrooms, a hostel to accommodate 200 students, power supply, a pump house, a water tank, and several other facilities.
This followed an inspection of the school by Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan, which the ministry said is part of its routine and culture to ensure that projects are completed according to schedule while addressing on-site issues that may affect the management and progress.
“This project is being implemented through the Design and Build (D&B) method with Welfield Services Sdn Bhd as the contractor and Special Project Team 2 (PPK2), Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia as the implementing agency,” said the press release.
SMK Engkilili is vital to the Lubok Antu district as it operates in a single session with a student population of 1,068 (Form 1 to Form 6), supported by 89 teachers and 14 members of the implementation group.
In addition, the ministry calls on all parties involved to remain committed to ensuring the project is completed on schedule.
“This effort will not only benefit the school community but also reflects the principles of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasise values of care, compassion, and well-being in providing a better learning environment for future generations,” it said. — DayakDaily
