KUCHING, March 13: Some 111 landowners received land compensation worth RM20 million for land acquisition to facilitate four public projects to be carried out in the Samarahan division.

The four projects are the proposed Jalan Kampung Tegelam and Kampung Sungai Alit; Jalan Kampung Sungai Tanju/Kampung Beliong to Kampung Lubok Kura (Samarahan sector), proposed construction of the second trunk road package A-proposed revised alignment of Package A2 (Highway from Batang Sadong to Sebuyau); and a village expansion scheme in Kampung Reban.

The cheques were handed over by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan during a presentation ceremony at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre today.

Speaking during the ceremony, Awang Tengah called for cooperation from landowners to ensure infrastructure development can be carried out smoothly.

He said apart from accelerating basic infrastructure development, it will also provide greater socioeconomic development, especially in rural areas.

He also said for this reason, the government is committed to ensuring that Sarawak remains on track to become a developed state by 2030 as outlined in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“This stronger direction will increase Sarawak’s income while improving basic infrastructure facilities throughout the region, especially in rural areas.

“It is for the well-being and future of the people of Sarawak,” he added.

Also present were Sarawak Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and Muara Tuang assemblyman, Datuk Idris Buang; advisor to Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (Mintred) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; and Sarawak Land and Survey Department (Landas) director Datu Abdullah Julaihi. — DayakDaily
