RM161 mln makeover to transform Belawai Beach into major tourist destination

KUCHING, May 8: A high-impact development project worth RM161 million is set to be implemented at Belawai Beach to address coastal erosion and provide a range of public amenities aimed at boosting tourism.

According to a TVS news report. the upcoming facilities include a main stage, a funfair market, and a family recreation zone—part of a broader initiative by the Sarawak government under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the project reflects the government’s commitment to unlocking Belawai Beach’s potential as a key tourism hub in central Sarawak.

“This is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to empower Belawai Beach as a major attraction for both locals and visitors,” he said after chairing the Belawai Beach Development Project meeting here today.

Len Talif, who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman, noted that the project will benefit from improved connectivity through the newly developed Sarikei-Tanjung Manis route, which serves as the main access road for visitors to the area.

An engagement session was held with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak, the project’s implementing agency, to coordinate execution plans.

Also involved in the project are the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) and the appointed project consultant, both working to ensure the smooth and timely implementation of the initiative. — DayakDaily
