SIMUNJAN, Aug 5: The Boiler Market @ Simunjan commercial development project has reached a significant milestone with the official handover of Package A by the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) to the Simunjan District Council, paving the way for new economic opportunities and entrepreneurship growth in the district.
Valued at RM16.3 million, the project represents one of the key development initiatives brought to Simunjan through the continued efforts of Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris in advocating for infrastructure and facilities that benefit the local community.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, LCDA project manager Wan Mohamad Mizan said the project was developed in accordance with approved specifications and plans to establish a modern commercial hub that would serve as a catalyst for Simunjan’s economic growth.
He said Package A includes the construction of a food court equipped with food stalls, cottage industry spaces and a tamu market featuring wet and dry market sections. The development is also complemented by supporting facilities such as a playground, retention pond, drainage system, public toilets, storage facilities and a pump room.
“The food court can accommodate more than 300 visitors at any one time, while the overall development is designed to create a comfortable and conducive environment for traders and visitors,” he said during the official handover ceremony of Package A of Boiler Market @ Simunjan to the Simunjan District Council today.
Wan Mohamad added that LCDA would proceed with the next phase of development under Package B, which is expected to commence next year and involve the construction of 10 units of two-storey mini shoplots. Upon completion, the facilities will be handed over to the Simunjan District Council for rental purposes.
Meanwhile, Package C will involve the construction of another 10 units of two-storey shop houses, further strengthening the commercial ecosystem within the development area.
He said the strategic location of Boiler Market @ Simunjan, situated near schools, government offices and the sports complex, positions it as a potential new economic growth centre or “new town” for Simunjan.
“The improving road connectivity is also expected to attract visitors from Kuching, Samarahan and Serian, which will help boost trade, business activities and economic vibrancy in the area,” he said.
Wan Mohamad also called on local entrepreneurs to maximise the opportunities provided by the new facilities by offering unique, high-quality products and food offerings to attract visitors and stimulate the local economy.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Awla, who had earlier announced the rebranding of the development as Boiler Market @ Simunjan, reflecting the aspiration to establish it as a new landmark that will drive economic growth and become a focal point for the community.
