KUCHING, June 7: A RM150 million investment from the private sector in Lawas reflects investors’ confidence in the area’s development potential, as well as in its economic direction charted by the Sarawak government.

According to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, it also reflects investors’ confidence through the development of Lepapa Hypermarket and Roxy Hotel, which further strengthens Lawas’ role as a trade, services, and tourism hub in northern Sarawak.

“When the private sector is willing to invest such a substantial amount, it shows their confidence in Lawas’ potential and in the development policies implemented by the government.

“Collaboration between the government and the private sector is essential in driving economic growth and creating job opportunities for local communities,” he said at the launching ceremony of Lepapa Hypermarket and Roxy Hotel in Lawas on Saturday (June 6).

Awang Tengah, who is also the Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment, said the developments are expected to generate spillover benefits across sectors, including trade, tourism, and services, while creating more opportunities for local entrepreneurs to expand their businesses.

In addition, the implementation of various infrastructure projects in Lawas and northern Sarawak has also increased investors’ confidence, which in turn encourages large-scale developments in the area. — DayakDaily
