RM120 mil for Batu Kawa flood mitigation, drainage system upgrading

KUCHING, Jan 31: A total of RM120 million worth of flood mitigation and drainage system upgrading project will be implemented by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Sarawak to address the drainage issues in Batu Kawa area.

According to DID, in a press statement today, the project will be implemented under the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025).

The project includes the improvement of the drainage system at Lorong 1C and 3, Sg Moyan, Sg Surih, Jalan Field Force, Jalan Ketitir, Desa Wira and Rancangan Perumahan Rakyat Batu Kawa (RPR) area as well as the riverbank rehabilitation works at Kampung Sinar Budi Baru.


“Perunding C.F has been appointed as the project design and consultancy company by DID Sarawak, and  DID believes that Batu Kawah drainage issue will be improved after the project is completed,” it said.

The department noted, Minister of Local Government Sarawak Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, has also been briefed by the DID Sarawak assistant director Ir Jamesy Mijek on the project details on Jan 30.

Also present during Dr Sim’s visit to the site of the project were the representative of the project design and consultancy company Ir Foo Siang Ning and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Kawa branch chairman Lim Ah Ted. — DayakDaily
