RM12 million proposal to upgrade Taman Rekreasi Ranchan

KUCHING, Nov 23: There is a proposal to upgrade Taman Rekreasi Ranchan with a budget of RM12 million from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil revealed that the proposal includes upgrading road and drainage systems and improving of parking facilities and existing chalets.


He was responding to a question from Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus on the government’s plan to upgrade recreational facilities such as Taman Rekreasi Ranchan and Tasik Danu Serian during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting at DUN Complex today.

Pengguang also informed the august House that to spur the growth of the local economy and tourism industry, Serian District Council (SDC) is actively seeking private investment to develop and upgrade facilities and infrastructures at Tasik Danu Serian (TDS).

“TDS is a very popular recreational spot among residents and has hosted two primary annual tourism events—Pesta Danu Serian and Serian International Remote Control Carnival (SIRCC).”

He elaborated that SIRCC, an annual event organised by SDC, attracts not only local participation but also participants from foreign countries like Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Indonesia.

“Such activities contribute to the local economy, and serve as a platform to showcase the unique cultures of the Serian communities to the world,” he said. — DayakDaily
