BINTULU, Feb 5: Minister of Food, Commodity, and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom announced a RM100,000 allocation to assist residents of Edward Chai and Boniface Bada longhouses, who were affected by the recent flooding.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Dr Rundi, who is also Kemena assemblyman, visited the area on Tuesday (Feb 4) using a boat provided by the residents, as the main road was still submerged and impassable by vehicles.

He expressed his concern for the residents’ hardships and hopes that this allocation will ease their burdens and provide essential supplies during the recovery process.

According to reports, the affected residents have not relocated to relief centres, as they can still occupy the upper floors of their two-storey longhouses.

However, they are in need of dry food supplies due to the inaccessibility of the main road.

Also present were Miri Resident Galong Luan, Subis District officer Norlila Ulis, former Temenggong Wilson Atong Limping, and the political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Collin Patan. — DayakDaily
