KUCHING, Oct 18: The RM1,000 special individual income tax relief under Budget 2026 is expected to boost domestic tourism and drive local economic activity.
Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director-General (Planning) Datin Rafidah Idris said this at the launch of Star Karnival Cuti-Cuti Malaysia 2025 Sarawak at Plaza Merdeka today.
“By travelling within our own country, we help grow an economy that benefits local communities and celebrates our rich diversity.
“This is the essence of Cuti-Cuti Malaysia — to explore, experience, and be inspired by the beauty that surrounds us,” she said.
Rafidah described Sarawak as one of Malaysia’s most captivating destinations, a land of natural wonders, vibrant cultures, and warm hospitality.
She said the three-day event, taking place from Oct 17 to Oct 19, celebrates the spirit of travel and community.
Rafidah further stated Sarawak’s participation has been remarkable, showing the state’s strong commitment to tourism growth and cultural preservation.
She highlighted Sarawak’s achievements including two UNESCO World Heritage Sites namely Gunung Mulu National Park and Niah National Park including Kuching’s recognition as a World Craft City and UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
Rafidah said visitors can savour Sarawak’s signature dishes like laksa Sarawak, kolo mee and kek lapis while enjoying cultural shows and admiring local crafts such as pua kumbu and traditional pottery.
She added that those seeking a deeper experience can stay in longhouse homestays to witness the authentic Iban way of life — a true taste of Sarawak’s living culture.
The carnival features almost 70 exhibitors showcasing travel packages, local crafts and cuisines from Sarawak and other states.
Rafidah urged Malaysians to take the opportunity to plan their next local holiday at the event, share their experiences and keep the momentum strong ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026. — DayakDaily
