KUCHING, July 23: A RM10 million river retaining wall will be built along Batu Kawa Kampung Sinar Budi Lama’s riverbank to stop erosion.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) said the river upgrading and repairing project, which also includes a pedestrian pathway and a small pier, has been approved by the Sarawak government and will be handled by Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).

“The funding was requested by Batu Kawah assemblyman Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian after assessing the Kampung Sinar Budi Lama’s riverbank situation and feedback from local residents and engineers,” said SUPP in a statement today.

Once the project is completed, it will further beautify Batu Kawa’s riverbank along with other ongoing riverbank beautifying projects on site.

Recently, Dr Sim held a discussion with Kampung Sinar Budi Lama JKKK (Village Security and Development Committee) to sketch out the project plan where local residents can decide on a suitable pier model.

The outcome of the discussion will then be submitted to relevant authorities for planning and execution purposes.

SUPP Batu Kawa branch chairman Lim Ah Ted and Kampung Sinar Budi Lama JKKK chairman Hamidon were also present during the site visit and discussion. — DayakDaily
