BETONG, Oct 10: About 70 villagers of Rh Andoh Chupong in Nanga Graji, here, were told to be on high alert as heavy downpour has triggered hill slope landslide behind their longhouse.

Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) were informed of the incident at 11.20am today. The 15 feet high landslide occurred behind seven out of the 22-door longhouse.

“A chunk of soil had slipped down the hill slope, near to the kitchen areas from seven units.

“We’ve contacted the Public Works Department to assess the threat posed to the longhouse, while advising villagers to cover the affected area with canvas sheets as an immediate mitigation measure,” firefighter Henry Jugah said.

He added that no injuries were reported.

Bomba also advised longhouse folks to immediately contact relevant authorities should another landslide occur. — DayakDaily
