Returnee from Selangor tests positive for Covid-19, no local transmissions

KUCHING, Dec 10: A local man who returned from the high-risk area of Selangor is the sole imported Covid-19 case reported in Kuching today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said that this thus increased the state tally of positive cases to 1,073.

Case 1,037 had returned to Sarawak for holidays on Dec 9. Upon arrival at Kuching International Airport (KIA), he had undergone rT-PCR test before observing the mandatory 14-days quarantine order at a quarantine centre.


The results returned positive the next day. He was asymptomatic and is now isolated and treated at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH). Contact tracing is currently ongoing.

With another new case, a total of 13 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals in the state with 10 in SGH and three in Miri Hospital.

Meanwhile, there were no recoveries recorded today, thus the total number of recovered cases in Sarawak was maintained at 1,041 or 97.02 per cent of total positive cases so far.

There are four active clusters remaining in Kuching namely Besi Cluster (12 cases), Jalan Abell Cluster (15 cases), Greenhill Cluster (91 cases) and Wisma Saberkas Cluster (44 cases).

Kuching and Serian remained as yellow zones with a total of three local cases reported in the last 14 days.

Sarawak also recorded 18 more persons-under-investigation (PUI) with one case pending laboratory test result.

There were also 246 more persons-under-surveillance (PUS) registered into identified hotels to undergo quarantine.

As of today, there were a total number of 4,448 individuals undergoing quarantine in 41 hotels and quarantine facilities throughout the state. — DayakDaily
