KUCHING, April 17: Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) Sarawak is optimistic that rain may fall in a few days to cool off the sizzling heat.
Its director Khairul Najib Ibrahim said there was fine rain around Kuching area last night at about 10pm, so he is looking forward to cooler weather in the region.
“Last night around 10pm, I think, there was a little rain around Kuching area. It’s a good sign actually.
“I think in the next few days we can get some rain,” he told DayakDaily when contacted earlier today.
Commenting on the scorching weather over the past week, Khairul said the average daily maximum temperature recorded by MetMalaysia Sarawak stations was between 32 to 34 degrees Celsius.
He said the temperature in Sarawak, though can be irritably hot for the public, is not to be concerned about as it is still under 35 degrees Celsius.
“The temperature that should raise concerns is between 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, or higher.
“So, Sarawak is still far from that. (We) don’t have to be worried about any heatwave. The possibility of Sarawak experiencing a heatwave is rather low,” he added.
Meanwhile, Khairul advised members of the public not to be misled by rumours and to obtain weather information only from credible agencies.
