KUCHING, June 8: Respect the government decided upon by the King and put politics aside while the nation is plagued by a deadly pandemic, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief Datuk Idris Buang.

He opined national leaders should take heed of the example set by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Our Chief Minister has repeatedly said he puts the lives and security of the people above all and that should be the stand of all the national leaders.

“Whatever politics it is, the current government is one chosen and decided upon by the King. While the nation is under the Emergency, all parties, individuals and groups should respect the King’s decision,” Idris told DayakDaily.

He said during an Emergency, the King has absolute power, and this is in accordance with the Emergency Ordinance read with the Federal Constitution.

As such, while the pandemic is still going on, this government should be respected and supported as that is the prerequisite for the implementation of any policies that may effectively deal with the pandemic and its disastrous impact.

“GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) which is led by the chief minister will support whoever puts the people’s lives and wellbeing first and puts political stability as priority,” said Idris who is also the Muara Tuang assemblyman.

Personally, he held that despite whatever political discontentment or undercurrents are present, this government should be allowed to bring the nation out of Covid-19 pandemic first.

“The King has been making decisions based on the advice of the Conference of Rulers, the prime minister, the cabinet, the Attorney General…I think he is very well-advised and thus, his decision must be respected.

“I hope all politicians can be patient and not disrupt the existing political balance in the interest of the common good and the people.

“The change of government by having the Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) stepping down, to me, is not the answer to fighting this pandemic and any scheming is just legally futile if there is no blessing from the King,” said Idris. — DayakDaily
