KUCHING, Nov 12: Resolving the flood issues in P195 Bandar Kuching will be the first priority of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Eric Tay, should he be elected as MP.

“The first thing I want to do is to go to Parliament and get more money (from the Federal government) to deal with the flooding issues in Bandar Kuching,” he said.

He asserted that flash floods had been a pain for residents here for decades, and the issue must be handled as soon as possible.

Otherwise, he said, the problem will remain for the next few decades, and the people will suffer.

“Yesterday, a resident shared with me his worries. He said he could not sleep well because of the recent rain every night as he was too worried that his house would be flooded. So, he had to get up from time to time just to check the water level,” said Tay during Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng’s Facebook live session today.

Although it would be a heavy task and the cost is expensive, Tay said he would be willing to take up the challenge and work with local authorities to, once and for all, solve the issue of flash floods in Bandar Kuching. — DayakDaily
