MIRI, July 5: Some 50 food baskets were distributed to residents staying at Tudan, Senadin and Permyjaya here under the Food Basket Assistance programme for people affected by Covid-19 under the National People’s Wellbeing and Economic Recovery Package (Pemulih) today.
The distribution of these food baskets were held in Senadin by the Persatuan Dayak Miri (DAM) on behalf of Senator Dr Nuing Jeluing.
In his opening remarks at the handing over of the food baskets, Dr Nuing said the aid being given out under the Pemulih package is meant to ease the rakyat’s struggles during the Covid-19 pandemic and, as such, there should not be any political interest in distributing the food baskets.
“The food assistance will be given out in stages, to help the needy during this difficult time, subsequently there will second and third phases.
“Those in need of these assistance may approach DAM Miri and submit their personal particulars.
“We want to ensure everyone gets the assistance, especially those from the low income groups,” he pointed out.
On Sunday (July 4), Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC) formed a task force to mitigate the distribution of food baskets to the needy who are struggling during the Covid-19 lockdown to ensure these households receive assistance.
“This task force, I believed would help to mitigate the distribution process and to make sure everybody gets their assistance and avoid multiple recipients for the food basket aid,” he said.
Recently, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that the federal government has allocated RM300,000 to each MP, including opposition MPs, and senators to implement the Food Basket Assistance programme under the National Recovery Plan (PPN) to those affected groups within their respective constituencies.
Also present during the food basket distributions were DAM Miri advisor Seraya Budol, Temenggong Wilson Atong and DAM Miri president Wilfred Mac. — DayakDaily
