KUCHING, Jan 22: Parents must be brave to report their children involved in drug abuse, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Law, MA63, and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

She stressed that drug addiction must be treated properly, and parents must play their part to ensure the success of the rehabilitation process.

“Therefore, report your children if they are involved in drug abuse and let them check into a rehab centre so that we can treat them.

“They are not criminals as they are only involved in drug addiction. Thus, they must be treated properly,” she said when met by the media after officiating at the Youth Solidarity programme for Kampung Lintang and Kampung Sungai Bedil at Kampung Lintang multipurpose hall today.

Hasidah, also Samariang assemblywoman, further mentioned that the Sarawak National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) and the federal and State governments would continue to introduce initiatives and programmes to steer youths away from drugs.

The Samariang Service Centre contributed five signboards with the slogan ‘Banyak Jalan Dalam Hidup Tok, Jangan Sesekali Pilih Jalan Dadah’, which translates to ‘There’s a lot of paths in this life but never choose the path of drugs’.

These signboards have been installed at Kampung Lintang, Kampung Sungai Bedil Besar, and Kampung Semariang Baru while two more would be installed at Kampung Siol Kandis and Kampung Samariang Semerah Padi.
