Repeat drug offender claims trial to consuming drugs again

KUCHING, March 4: A 30-year-old man with two previous convictions for taking drugs was charged in the Sessions Court here today for consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine.

Chiam Tau Hung from Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang pleaded not guilty before Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusoff, who then fixed April 4 for pre-trial case management.


Chiam is charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act as he has two similar convictions in 2013.

This section of the Act provides for an imprisonment term of not less than five years and not more than seven years plus whipping of not more than three strokes upon conviction.

He was found administering amphetamine and methamphetamine at the Sarawak Narcotic Crime Investigation Department Office on Feb 28 this year at about 10.45pm.
