KUCHING, July 23: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap has expressed interest in growing the mixed martial arts (MMA) scene in his constituency.

He said this while officiating at the closing ceremony of the exhibition fight organised by the Neofelis Diardi Warrior Mix Martial Art Fight Club (NDW Club) today.

Yap also allocated a grant worth RM10,000 to the NDW Club to support the exhibition fight organised in conjunction with Sarawak Day.

Speaking during the event, Yap said the allocation is a kick-start for the club for their efforts in organising the event.

“I am happy to see such a sporting event is being organised in the Kota Sentosa constituency.

“I encourage them to organise another tournament as such in 7th Mile, and I will assist them in acquiring the venue, which is the current 7th Mile Basketball Court,” he said.

Yap also gave his assurance that he would continue to support the event in the future.

“When they organise another tournament, I will support them again.

“If possible, I will try to bring them to the relevant authority to grow the mixed martial arts (MMA) scene for local enthusiasts,” he added.
