MIRI, April 4: The remand of two men, aged 34 and 48, who are suspected of having raped an underage divorcee has been extended by four days.
Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa allowed the remand extension application by the police yesterday.
Initially, investigating officer (IO) Inspector Clarissa Carol applied for a seven-day remand to secure the clothing worn by the suspects during the alleged rape episode and to conduct a proper medical check-up on the victim.
Both suspects are to be produced at the Miri Magistrate’s Court on April 8.
During yesterday’s proceeding, one of the accused told the court that he had gout and, thus, needed his medication. Zuraini then ordered that the accused be given medication for his health problem.
The duo was arrested on March 29 following a report lodged by the 17-year-old victim. The alleged rape happened on March 5 at a longhouse in Sungai Teniku, Jalan Miri-Bintulu.
The offence is framed under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.— DayakDaily
