SERIAN, July 9: A 72-year-old man with disabilities (OKU) who went missing in the jungle was found safe and unharmed 24 hours later.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, the man from Kampung Semukoi A was reported missing by his family members this morning.

“It was understood that the man who is unable to speak or hear, told some villagers through sign language that he wanted to go to his farm in the Pambul area at about 1.30pm yesterday. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with black pants.

“Until 6.20pm, the man failed to return home, prompting his family and villagers to search for him within the village and Pambul,” the statement read.

Failing to locate the missing man, his concerned family lodged a police report this morning.

Firefighters from Serian and a Bomba K9 unit were immediately dispatched to the village and a search and rescue (SAR) operation was mounted.

The SAR team started searching a 3km radius area from where the victim was last seen.

While the SAR team was busy combing the village, the missing reappeared at about 12 noon and walked back to his own house. — DayakDaily
