Red lanterns adorn Sibu Gateway as part of Chinese New Year festivities

Bright red lanterns now dot Sibu Gateway as Chinese New Year approaches.

SIBU, Jan 19: Sibu Gateway is now host to some 2,000 red lanterns which will be illuminated at night to usher in the Chinese New Year celebrations.

A Chinese New Year Market 2022 is scheduled to take place for 11 days from Jan 20 to 30 from 9am to 10pm at the Gateway.

The market is jointly organised by Sibu Municipal Council and the Startup Entrepreneur Association Sarawak, and co-organised by the Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCCI) Youth Committee and Plux Entrepreneurs’ Incubation Hub.


There will be 70 stalls at the market for entrepreneurs in various fields to promote their products and New Year’s goodies.

In order to liven up the market, several social media influencers are scheduled to promote it and also assist in promoting exhibitors’ products.

There will also be various creative arts programmes held throughout the celebrations.

According to SCCCI, the lighting-up ceremony of the lanterns will be held tomorrow night and will be officiated by Assistant Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government II (Local Government) Michael Tiang Ming. — DayakDaily
