KUCHING, Aug 31: Sarawakians have always had a sense of humour, and this was proven when a user on Reddit spotted an unusual yet hilarious drink label of ‘Red Berries & Sarawak’ while browsing the shelves of a shop in London.
In the Sarawak subreddit, a user who goes by the name ‘Dry_Measurement_7274’ posted three pictures of what seemed like a normal canned drink.
However, upon closer inspection, it could be seen that the flavour of the drink—which described itself as a ‘sparkling functional drink’—was labelled as ‘Red Berries & Sarawak’ alongside the claim of ‘Boosted with Adaptogens & Nootropics’, which piqued Sarawakians’ curiosity and amusement.
Reddit user Appl3B3rryCh3rry commented, “Why does Sarawak need to be boosted with Adaptogens & Nootropics?”
Another user, Appl3B3rryCh3rry, commented, “’Sparkling functional drink’? What is that?” while Conscious_Law_8647 quipped, “I hope I taste good”.
Meanwhile, another user added some input by commenting, “I Googled and apparently ‘Sarawak’ is a handy short form for ‘Sarawak black pepper”, and that appears to be the mystery behind the rather unexpected pairing, as the joke quickly became less about the drink itself and more about how ‘Sarawak’ appeared to be listed as though it were a flavour in its own right.
In actuality, ‘Lift: Red Berries & Sarawak Sparkling Drink’ is a low-calorie, vegan, and caffeine- and sugar-free sparkling drink (carbonated drink) that contains red berries and Sarawak black pepper, which it claims can help boost energy and focus. — DayakDaily
