Recoda: NRDA projects to change landscape in Northern Region

KUCHING, July 8: Some RM1.5 billion worth of infrastructure projects in Limbang and Lawas is poised to spur the economy of the Northern Region upon completion in the next few years.

According to the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda), the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA)’s 165 projects involve, among others, the construction of  roads, water and electrical supply, riverine structure and drainage, buildings, recreational facilities will tremendously change the landscape.

An airport in the pipeline will also bring in investments as well as job opportunities in the region.

“Some of these road projects have already started in Ba’kelalan and Bukit Sari end of last year and early this year. Works are currently focusing on site clearing and earthworks,” Recoda said in a statement posted in its Facebook’s page, today.

The statement also noted that the projects include road upgrading projects, involving a road from Merapok to Kampung Patarikan that include the drainage system for Kampung Munchu, new road from Banting to Kampung Belimbing and new Tanjung Lagoon Datu Tai Road besides the construction of a new scheme for Kampung Belipat, Serdang and Belangsat in Lawas district.

“As for buildings, among the projects involved are the upgrading of the existing Limbang District Council Depot and upgrading work of existing ICQS Complex in Pandaruan.

“All these projects are expected to be completed by middle of next year, will help develop the Northern Region which has great potentials in power generation, oil and gas, transportation and logistics, commercial agriculture, livestock farming and aquaculture tourism,” the statement read. –DayakDaily.
