KUCHING, Oct 23: The Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) has formed a strategic partnership with Agrobank to provide easier financing for agricultural development in the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) area.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between the two agencies to enable farmers, agro-entrepreneurs, as well as potential investors to apply for special financing programmes in the three development agencies set up under Recoda, namely the Upper Rajang Development Agency, Highland Development Agency and the Northern Region Development Agency.

The strategic alliance would also enable the facilitation of the development of local agropreneurs to participate in commercial agriculture and encourage entrepreneurs to take part in the development of the agriculture supply chain in these areas.

“The collaboration such as this (Recoda and Agrobank) is important to support the state government’s agenda to transform rural development through dynamic and commercial agricultural activities.

“I am confident that the proposed financing programme by Agrobank will be beneficial in developing entrepreneurs among the local people and agricultural communities in Sarawak,” said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, commenting on the MoU signing at Penview Convention Centre in conjunction with Sarawak AgroFest 2018 here today.

The memorandum was signed by Recoda chief executive officer Datu Ismawi Ismuni and Agrobank chief strategic officer Mohamad Taufik Mahamad Zakaria.

Uggah, who is also Minister for Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development, witnessed the signing.

“This effort is in line with the state development plan, which is to make Sarawak a high-income and advanced state by 2030,” he said. — DayakDaily
