BAU, June 18: A ceremony to lower the Cross at the old St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kampung Opar marked the commencement of rebuilding works on the church.
Witnessing the symbolic occassion on Friday (June 14), Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang emphasised that the construction of a new church will provide comfort to Christian worshippers in Kampung Opar.
He revealed that several other churches in Kampung Tembawang Sauh, Kampung Raso 1, Kampung Raso 2, AWC Church Sebako, Kampung Jangkar, Kampung Sebandi Hulu dan SDA Church in Bokah junction will also be rebuilt.
“The construction of these new churches will benefit some 400 Christian familiees in Kampung Opar,” he said in his speech, as reported by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
The ceremony was also attended by Kampung Opar village chief Dewen Giam and Kampung Rumih village chief Rumih Nyoep Rinoi. — DayakDaily
