KUCHING, May 23: The index case of one of the Raya clusters, dubbed the Jalan Jambatan Gantung Cluster, today was found to have visited various houses around Kuching during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration on May 13.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in stating this, reported a total of nine positive cases traced back to the cluster including the index case.
The committee said this was a community cluster involving social activities during Hari Raya Aidilfitri at a housing area at Lorong 1, Jalan Jambatan Gantung, hence the name.
“The screening result of close contacts of the index case including family members and the houses he had visited found an increase of eight individuals who were Covid-19 positive,” said SDMC in a statement today.
A total of 25 individuals were screened, 15 returned negative results and another sample is awaiting laboratory test results.
SDMC assured that all the Covid-19 patients were admitted into the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) or the Kuching Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment purposes.
The Jalan Jambatan Gantung Cluster was only one out of two Raya clusters declared today in Kuching with the other known as the Taman Sourabaya Indah Cluster.
Not only that, there were two other Covid-19 clusters reported on this day with one in Kanowit and the other in Pakan. Both of them were clusters involving local longhouses.
With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak increased to 84 today with eight of them registering 83 new cases while the remaining 75 clusters remained idle. — DayakDaily
