KUCHING, Nov 20: An extremely rare migrant owl species with very few confirmed recorded sightings was surrendered to Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s (SFC) Miri branch by a concerned citizen today.
SFC chief executive officer Zolkipli Mohamad Aton, who is also the Controller of Wild Life, in their social media page said the short-eared owl (Asio flammeus) is a protected species in Sarawak.
“Owls are a protected species under the Wild Life Protection Ordinance 1998.
“SFC will release the owl back into the wild after it undergoes health checks,” Zolkipli said.
