Rape, robbery suspect nabbed in Miri

MIRI, Dec 31: Police arrested a 32-year-old man in front of a 24-hour convenience store in Taman Tunku here yesterday in connection with a rape and robbery case that happened on Dec 22.

The suspect was picked up by Miri CID personnel at about 4.30pm following a public tip-off. Police also seized a coverall suit, which is believed to be used by the suspect in the incident that occurred in a rented room in Jalan Airport.

When contacted today, city police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest but said: “But has yet confirmed that the suspect positively involved in the incident. We are still facilitating investigation on the man.”

At about 3am on Dec 22, a 24-year-old woman suddenly woke up when she realised that a stranger was lying beside her in her rented room. The armed local then proceeded to rape her at knifepoint and took her valuables amounting to about RM2,000 before leaving.

The case is being investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for robbery and armed robbery and under Section 376 of the same Code for rape.— DayakDaily.
