KUCHING, Dec 6: Opar incumbent Datuk Ranum Mina will be entering the race for the N1 Opar seat with five other candidates in the 12th Sarawak Election on Dec 18.

The candidates for the Opar seat are Bayang Teron from Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar), Billy Sujang from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Ranum from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Meneng Biris from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Freedy Misid from Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and Saini Kakong from Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB).

Ranum, a three-term assemblyman for Opar, will be contesting for the fourth time.

In the 11th Sarawak Election in 2016, Ranum who stood as a direct Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate beat Francis Teron Kadap Noyet of PKR, Patrick Uren of PBDSB and independent candidate Niponi Undek.

Ranum, who was a leader with Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), was sacked by the party and later joined United Peoples’ Party (UPP) before it was renamed to PSB.
