KUCHING, June 9: The progress on the 560 metre-long Rambungan Bridge project is currently at 5.84 per cent, which is 2.08 per cent ahead of its scheduled rate of 3.76 per cent.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the bridge construction progress was very encouraging.
“We hope this momentum continues, allowing the bridge to be completed ahead of the scheduled July 2027 deadline,” he told reporters during a working visit to the project site today.
Aidel added that the project is a vital component in the Sempadi–Lundu Section of the Sarawak coastal road network.
Further elaborating, he said that one of the main works currently underway is the construction of two pylon structures, which are key components in the overall bridge construction.
“Once the pylon structure is completed, the subsequent works will be easier and faster to carry out,” he said.
He also commended the significant increase in workforce and equipment at the site, including the installation of new tower cranes, which are essential for concrete works and multi-storey structures.
“This improvement reflects the strong commitment of the new contractor and clearly indicates that the project is now being managed in a more organised and efficient manner,” he added.
The 560 metre-long bridge, worth RM82 million, is a ‘rescue’ project taken over by Titanium Project Management Sdn Bhd following the previous contractor’s failure to complete it. — DayakDaily
