BINTULU, July 10: Rajawali Plantation Industrial Vaccination Centre (PPVIN) is the first PPVIN opened for workers involved in the plantation sector in Bintulu Division.

Bintulu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) chairman Jack Aman Luat said, the PPVIN which has been opened since July 8 will facilitate the vaccination of plantation workers in Sime Darby as well as their family members who are eligible to be vaccinated.

“After Rajawali, two more PPVINs will be opened for the plantation sector namely Labang PPVIN and Sarawak Oil Palm PPVIN.

“Labang PPVIN will operate on July 14 while Sarawak Oil Palm PPVIN will operate on July 16,” he told Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) during his visit to the Rajawali Plantation PPVIN yesterday (July 9).

Jack added that Bintulu DDMC has received many applications on the opening of more PPVINs but the Committee will choose based on the number of employees, which is at least not more than 1,000 people.

“Soon, two more PPVINs will be established, namely in Shin Yang Plywood and Samling Plywood in Bintulu, targeting workers in the two largest timber factories as well as small factories in the nearby area,” he said.

Jack, who is also Bintulu Division Resident, further said there will be an emphasis on the rural areas by setting up several mobile outreach teams.

“We have already conducted a Vaccination Outreach Programme to rural areas and set up several mobile teams, in addition to the opening of 13 health centres in rural areas such as in Sebauh and Tatau as well as health clinics that are used as vaccination centres (PPV).

“Our vaccination target is not less than 4,500 doses a day. This means that if we continue such momentum, we can achieve the target of completing the first dose of vaccine injection,” he said.

Based on the latest statistics, out of the population of 201,442 residents in Bintulu eligible to be vaccinated, a total of 135,000 or about 67 per cent were given the first dose while some 38,000 or 19 per cent had completed their second doses.
