KUCHING, July 21: Registration for the second edition of the Bung Sadung Climbathon Challenge is now open and interested climbers are advised to register early.
The climbathon challenge is set to take place on Sept 15, following positive response from last year’s inaugural event.
It is organised by Kampung Bunga’s development and security committee and the village’s Youth, Sports and Recreation Bureau.
In a statement today, the organiser revealed that the registration fees are: for the 15KM Men Open (RM80), 15KM Women Open (RM80), 6KM Men Veteran for 40-years-old and above (RM70), 6KM Women Veteran for 40-years-old and above (RM70), 6KM Boy Junior for 13 to 17-years-old (RM40), 6KM Girl’s Junior for 13 to 17-years-old and above (RM40) and 3KM Fun Hike (RM50).
The organiser also disclosed that a total of RM6,000 worth of cash prizes and trophies will be given away to the top finishers and all climbers will also receive a finisher’s medal upon completion of the climb.
The climbathon’s patron is Tarat assemblyman Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn who is also the Assistant Minister for Native Land Development.
Roland has contributed a total of RM20,000 for the event.
“By joining the Bung Sadung 2019 Climbathon Challenge this September, participants can discover one of Bukar Sadung’s heritage nature trails,” said the organiser.
The starting and finishing point of this year’s climbathon will be at Kampung Bunga in Serian.
Mount Sadung is some 50km from Kuching city and is considered as the inherited home reserve of the local Bukar Bidayuhs from the 26 villages surrounding the mountain.
The mountain also had a heritage settlement site believed to be the ancestral ground for the Bukar Bidayuhs dating back to the Brooke era.
The climbathon aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle as well as to instil and inculcate a proactive attitude and stewardship towards the environment. It also seeks to foster unity among the communities in the area through this activity.
The event will also feature an exhibition area and refreshment booth.
