Rabies alert: 6 people bitten by dog near BSN, Tabuan Jaya while 2 attacked at Jalan Chawan

KUCHING, Feb 6: Six people have reportedly been bitten by a dog in the vicinity of Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) of Tabuan Jaya.

Apart from that, two others were also bitten yesterday at Jalan Chawan.  

The news was released by Kuching South City Council mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng through a social media post today.


“Yesterday, there were two persons who were bitten at Jalan Chawan.  

“And today, four persons were bitten and the latest case happened near BSN area at Tabaun Jaya commercial area. All are advised to take extra care,” said Wee in the post.

Wee included snapshots of two forwarded WhatsApp messages in his post, which read “Now 2 person(s) are bitten at BSN Tabuan Jaya. Latest bite 20mins ago, near Bank Simpanan Nasio(nal) at Tabuan Jaya”.

The mayor also went live on his social media page at about 3.30pm, stating that five of the six victims have sought treatment at Sarawak General Hospital while one visited Borneo Medical Centre.

He said the same dog which had bitten the six victims had roamed from Chawan Road (opposite of Viva City) to Tabuan Jaya.

The suspected rabid dog has since been caught at Tabuan Jaya commercial area this afternoon and has been sent to be tested for rabies.

“Please don’t let your pets out to prevent them from becoming infected. Even after they are vaccinated, don’t let your pets out in public.

“If you want to keep pets, keep them in your house compound,” said Wee. — DayakDaily
