KUCHING, August 11: The people of Kabong, Saratok, can now breathe a sight of relief now that their water woes have been settled, following quick action from the state Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB).

The department took immediate measures to address the water issue in Kabong district with the successful implementation of two intervention projects that consisted laying down a new 5.5km dedicated line from Lebur Reservoir, and the upgrading of Nyabor and Kabong Booster Station. The projects were completed on June 14.

“As a responsible agency, we remain committed in our initiative to resolve water woes in the area, and this is still an on-going process,” JBALB said in a statement today.

With the completion of the two projects, Kpg Baru Darat, Kpg Hilir Laut, Kpg Hulu Laut, Kpg Sg Benang, Kpg Wawasan, Kpg Sg Endot, Kabong District office areas, Kabong police station up to SK Abang Leman and surrounding areas now have access to better water supply, the department continued.

It added that based on the feedback from the local community leaders, the initiative has greatly improved access to clean water supply.

“As a result, the villagers have now adequate and reliable supply of clean water which simultaneously have enabled them to perform their daily routines and activities,” JBALB said.

The department also assured residents of the affected areas within the vicinity of Kpg Sg Endot which are still facing intermittent water supply, that they will be supported through water tankers.

“In this regard, Ministry of Utilities and JBALB Sarawak would like to emphasise that we are committed to ensure that all planned projects will be fully implemented according to the specified time,” it said. — DayakDaily
