Puspen inmate claims trial to sodomy charge

KUCHING, Jan 3: A resident of Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) claimed trial in the Sessions Court here today to charges of sodomising a fellow inmate last week.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all six charges framed against him.

Sessions Court judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusoff fixed Jan 30 for pre-trial case management.

The man is alleged to have committed the offences at Puspen’s hostel located in Mile 6 here between Dec 20 to Dec 24, 2019.

He was charged with two counts of inserting his finger into the anus of the 26-year-old victim without consent at about 9am on Dec 20 and 21, 2019.

If convicted, he faces imprisonment of up to 30 years and whipping under Section 377CA of the Penal Code.

He was also charged with four counts of committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature on the victim between Dec 20 and Dec 24, 2019, under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment term of not less than five years and not more than 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Following a police report lodged by the victim on Dec 26, police have arrested the suspect.

The victim has also undergone a health check at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and the doctor had confirmed that there was an anal fissure.
