KUCHING, June 8: It would be wise for Ukraine to compromise by giving up 25 per cent of its Russian-speaking territories rather than letting its people suffer, says political pundit Dato Peter Minos.

In a statement, Minos was commenting on the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia and expressed sympathy for Ukrainians who are suffering, even being killed by Russian missiles and bombs, adding that it must have been ‘hell’ for them.

“The Ukrainians cannot win against the much bigger and more powerful Russia. In 1812, France, under Napoleon, invaded Russia and lost badly. The Germans in 1944/1945 also tried to invade Russia and lost very badly.

“The Ukrainians must know history. If not, the Russians will invade them, and they will lose everything. “Russia demands to retain the territories it has conquered, insists on the recognition of Russian-speaking regions, and requires that Ukraine remain neutral and not join NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation),” he said.

He added that it is wise of Ukrainian leaders to give way to Russia’s demands, which he said would stop the war and stop it from invading Ukraine, as it has the might to do so.

“Rather than provoking the Russians, it is wise for the Ukrainians to give up 25 per cent of their Russian-speaking territories and forget about NATO and the pledges of the instigating West Europeans and Americans.

“Why fight a much superior neighbour and let your people suffer and die by the day? In the end, you get invaded and lose it all. Better compromise and let peace come in.” — DayakDaily
