KUCHING, July 20: Rumours and insinuations to instigate in-party conflicts may work in Peninsular Malaysia, but not in Sarawak, especially among Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members, says political pundit Dato Peter Minos.

In a statement, Minos was weighing in on a Free Malaysia Today (FMT) report speculating on an alleged power struggle in PBB between Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said there are a few ‘mischievous’ parties in Peninsular Malaysia’s media scene who are fond of fabricating sensational news and rumours to boost the sales of their papers at the expense of others, without regard for the impact on those around them.

Minos further added that there are no ethics in Peninsular Malaysia’s political scene, which has resulted in endless cycles of political problems.

“They want it that way, but not us in Sarawak. PBB members, by nature and character, do not give any attention to baseless rumours and instigations.

“As far as they are concerned, they believe that their top leaders know exactly what to do and how to behave. Thus, pitting them to hit, sabotage or undercut each other does not work at all,” he said.

Minos then added that only those who have bad intentions can make such insinuations. There is no power struggle at the top in PBB.

“Sarawakians are better off by not taking any heed of the political rumours and speculations created by those in Peninsular Malaysia. Why bother with things that were nothing in the first place?”

On July 17, PBB Information Chief Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah dismissed claims of a power struggle between Abang Johari and Awang Tengah, stating that such talk is unfounded and does not reflect the reality within PBB.

This was followed by Abang Johari’s say on the matter on July 19, who hit back at online attempts to fabricate conflict between him and Awang Tengah, blaming jealousy over Sarawak’s rising economic success. — DayakDaily
