Puncak Borneo MP wants studies on Annah Rais hot springs, landslide prone areas

KUCHING, July 3: Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries And Commodities Willie Mongin will request the Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia to study the hot springs of ​​Kampung Annah Rais in Padawan, here.

Willie who is also the Member of Parliament for Puncak Borneo revealed the study will look at the hot water from underground at the popular tourism destination and its hydrogeochemical properties.

“With this study, the hot springs zone (in Kampung Annah Rais) can be better described to help preserve tourism products in the Puncak Borneo Parliament constituency,” he asserted via a post on his Facebook page highlighting a courtesy call by Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Ali Biju and his delegation to the Ministry of Plantation Industries And Commodities in Putrajaya yesterday.


Willie revealed he would also request for a vulnerability study and soil testing along Puncak Borneo Road, Padawan Road, Padawan Link Road and Semedang Road-Estate Branch to identify hotspots where landslides frequently occur.

“With the findings of this study, the risk of landslides can be identified and we can also mitigate to avoid recurring landslides,” he added.

He did not give further details of the study but highlighted the study will also be important for the safety of road users in the Puncak Borneo Parliament constituency. — DayakDaily
