KUCHING, Aug 1: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Central Publicity and Information Secretary Adam Yii has called for Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and the entire Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH), including the Democratic Action Party (DAP), to withdraw from the next Sarawak election to maintain the harmony and stability of the Federal unity government.

The Pujut assemblyman expressed his support for Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Vice President Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s remarks that PKR should not contest in the 13th Sarawak election.

According to him, Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen had previously stated in an interview after the Sheraton Move on Feb 29, 2020, that for the sake of national interest, Sarawak DAP was willing to refrain from participating in the next Sarawak election.

“Since contesting will not lead to staying in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, Chong should lead his team to completely withdraw from the 13th Sarawak Election to maintain the stability of the unity government, thus keeping his word and acting in the national interest,” Yii said.

He said following the 15th General Election, the political landscape has significantly changed and despite apologies from DAP’s leaders, Anthony Loke and Nga Kor Ming to GPS for past inappropriate remarks, and further an open apology from Lim Guan Eng through the media, Sarawak DAP still positions itself as the Opposition.

While this stance by Sarawak DAP appears superficially reasonable, he opined that it actually plants seeds of instability within the unity government.

“Therefore, I urge Chong to demonstrate statesmanship and keep his promise as a political leader,” Yii added. — DayakDaily
