KUCHING, Aug 16: Public university students may now start applying for the RM300 airfare subsidy for the purchase of domestic flight tickets between Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan, with redemption open until Dec 31 this year.
Furthermore, Ministry of Transport (MOT) stated that even for air tickets purchased for travel after the final redemption date of the digital voucher, the subsidy will still be applicable.
“As part of the National Month celebration, this assistance is a Unity Government initiative aimed at enhancing ties between Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, Sarawak, as well as Federal Territory of Labuan.
“It also addresses cost of living concerns in line with the Malaysia Madani aspiration,” the ministry said in a statement yesterday (Aug 15).
Effective as of yesterday, the airfare subsidy programme is now in operation and public university students who wish to ascertain their eligibility may do so by visiting the MOT’s website at https://subsidiudara.mot.gov.my/.
Once eligibility is confirmed, students may proceed to apply for the airfare subsidy, which can be used for the purchase of flight tickets from various airlines, including Malaysia Airlines, MASwings, FireFly, AirAsia, Batik Air, and MYAirline through the respective airline companies’ websites.
The ministry explained that in case of ineligibility, students have the option to verify and appeal through the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) by engaging with their respective universities.
“Presently, eligible students are those who have enrolled in public universities up to the academic year 2022/2023, by June 30, 2023,” it said.
Upon receiving these applications, the airline companies will issue digital vouchers valued at RM300 to students as a credit shell for purchasing flight tickets.
“If the ticket price is lower than RM300, any remaining value from the digital voucher will be retained in the credit shell and can be utilised for future ticket purchases,” the ministry added. — DayakDaily
