KUCHING, Aug 30: The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM or HASiL) reminded the public not to fall for the modus operandi used by scam syndicates claiming to be from the board.

In a press statement today, HASiL said the syndicate uses the latest technological methods to deceive victims.

It said that although many arrests have been made by the authorities and published in the mass media, scammer fraud cases still occur, and the number of cases increases every year.

“Accordingly, the public is reminded to be careful with any form of e-mail, suspicious links, and phone calls regarding taxation issues and Government Special Assistance.

“The public is advised not to fill in or provide any personal information on dubious websites, links or phone calls so that irresponsible parties do not misuse the personal data,” it added.

HASiL also advised the public to check any information related to taxation through their official channels, namely through the HASiL official website, Portal MyTax, the HASiL Contact Centre (HCC) at 03-8911 1000 or by visiting their local HASiL office.

“HASiL is bound by the provisions of confidentiality of taxation information under Section 138 of the Income Tax Act (ITA) 1967, where every taxpayer’s personal information will not be disclosed to third parties arbitrarily,” it said.

For more information or inquiries, contact HCC at 03-8911 1000 or 603-8911 1000 (international call), HASiL Live Chat, or fill in the feedback form at the HASiL official website. — DayakDaily
