KUCHING, May 23: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) has issued a public alert regarding a fraudulent online promotion circulating on social media involving fake ticket sales for the 29th Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).
According to STB, the scam redirects users to counterfeit websites and ticketing pages that closely mimic the official RWMF website as well as the platform of its authorised ticketing partner, Ticketmelon.
The board confirmed that these sites are not legitimate and have no affiliation with either Ticketmelon or the Rainforest World Music Festival.
STB said it had verified the matter directly with Ticketmelon, which confirmed that the websites and promotions in question are fraudulent and unauthorised in all respects.
“Members of the public are strongly advised to exercise caution and purchase tickets exclusively through the official RWMF website at RWMF Official Website and authorised ticket resellers,” it said in a statement today.
Festivalgoers are also urged to avoid clicking on suspicious links shared via social media or unofficial platforms, and to carefully verify website addresses before completing any online transactions.
STB stressed that it is treating the matter seriously and has already initiated steps to report and remove the fraudulent links and websites in order to protect the public from financial losses and potential misuse of personal data.
The public is further encouraged to share the advisory widely with family members, friends, and wider networks to help prevent others from falling victim to the scam.
