KUCHING, Jan 14: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will not pay Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) a single cent with regards to the party receiving funds from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
President Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing said the party had not received any notice or compound from MACC.
“They haven’t asked me yet to pay back, so why should I pay? They haven’t sent us anything, so let’s wait and see,” Masing replied, when asked by reporters after officiating Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak Safety & Quality Forum welcoming dinner last night.
MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said on Jan 6 that the anti-graft body will act against those who had not paid up despite compound notices issued to them for receiving funds from 1MDB.
Latheefa said among others, they could be charged in court under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA).
Masing further reiterated that PRS did not make any sort of deal with MACC, and that the party had explained what they were doing.
Last year, MACC issued compounds under AMLA against 80 individuals and companies said to have received funds from 1MDB.
These included several high profile personnel and a number of political entities, 23 companies and five organisations. —DayakDaily
