PRS Simanggang team won Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie’s Challenge Trophy

KUCHING, Aug 18:  Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Wanita Simanggang team took home the Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie’s Challenge Trophy this year while last year’s champion PRS Wanita Belaga came second and PRS Wanita Ngemah was third. 

The tournament Player of the Year award was won by Merydiana Sindawa from team Simanggang who scored 17 goals.

PRS President Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing commended and lauded the performance of PRS women at the closing ceremony of PRS Women Futsal Tournament 2019 The Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie’s Challenge Trophy held at Bintulu Kidurong Club from August 16 to 17.


“I am very relax and happy in the two days watching you ladies compete in true spirit of sportsmanship. The comradeship amongst you PRS ladies is commendable and I am proud of it.

“As far as I know, no other political parties have organised such competition. We may be a small party but we can do it.  I hope you all will continue with this tournament for many more years to come,” said the Deputy Chief Minister who was accompanied by his wife Puan Sri Corrine Masing.

Meanwhile, according to PRS Women Chief, Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie, the tournament is an annual event which the Women’s Wing first organised in 2017 in Sri Aman. 

“We rotate our venue to allow other PRS Women Divisions to have the opportunity to be the host. This is the third time we organised this tournament. Like in previous years, the response was overwhelming. We have 19 teams participating this year from all PRS Women Divisions throughout Sarawak.”

“Amongst others, the prime objective of organizing the tournament is to further enhance comradeship amongst the PRS women members throughout Sarawak and to consolidate our support for the party and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS”),” said Doris.

Doris also announced that the host for next year’s tournament will be Wanita Tamin.

Hulu Rejang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak, Samalaju Assemblyman Majang Renggi, Pelagus AssemblymanWilson Nyambong Ijang, Murum Assemblyman Kennedy Chuk Pai Ugon and the Political Secretaries to the chief minister Edwin Banta and Beatrice Kedoh were present at the event. — DayakDaily
