KUCHING, Aug 14: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Murum Youth has unanimously declared full support for Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon to contest the PRS Youth Chief post, which will be up for grabs at the party’s Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) scheduled for Oct 18 to 19, 2025.

In a statement yesterday, PRS Murum Youth chief Patrick Uban, who is also PRS Youth exco member, expressed strong confidence that Chukpai will secure at least eight nominations from the party’s 23 eligible divisions to qualify for the contest.

Recalling the history of the party since its establishment in 2004, Patrick pointed out that the Youth Chief post has traditionally been held by leaders from various ethnic backgrounds within PRS to ensure leadership stability and balance.

The first PRS Youth Chief was Datuk Mong Dagang (Iban), followed by Datuk Liwan Lagang (Orang Ulu) and the incumbent Datuk Snowdan Lawan (Iban).

“I believe the Youth Chief position at this coming TDC should be entrusted to Chukpai to continue the legacy of inclusive leadership laid down by the late party president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing.

“Since the formation of PRS in 2004, the Youth Chief post has traditionally been rotated among leaders of different ethnicities within the party to maintain stability and balanced leadership,” he said.

Patrick also highlighted Chukpai’s long-standing service in the party, having been an active PRS Youth member since 2004 before serving as PRS Youth vice-chief under the first Youth Chief Datuk Mong Dagang.

Chukpai was also PRS Belaga Youth chief from 2004 until 2016, before being fielded as the candidate for N.66 Murum in the Sarawak State Election.

Currently, Chukpai serves as PRS Murum Division chief and a PRS central supreme council member, a position he has held since 2016.

“His outstanding track record reflects loyalty, commitment to PRS and vast experience in the party organisation.

“Based on this, we are confident Chukpai can significantly contribute to strengthening PRS Youth if given the opportunity,” Patrick asserted.

Chukpai is one of several names tipped to contest the Youth Chief post, alongside Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai, Tamin assemblyman Ir Christopher Gira Sambang, and Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi. — DayakDaily
