KUCHING, Nov 25: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), as a component party of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), believes that the people of Sabah are mature in their political judgment and are confident that they are capable of determining the direction of their own state leadership.
In a statement, the PRS Central Youth said the party respects Sabah’s political autonomy, affirming that it has not directed or involved any party members to campaign for any political party contesting in Sabah.
“Should there be any GPS leaders or ministers from Sarawak present or involved in programmes or campaigns during the election period, such participation is solely in their personal capacity and does not represent PRS or GPS in any way, nor does it reflect the official position of the party.
“PRS remains committed to focusing its efforts on Sarawak’s development agenda, strengthening youth unity, and preserving good relations among political partners throughout Malaysia, in line with the spirit of consensus and mutual respect,” it said.
It added that the statement was issued to ensure that the good relations between both States are preserved and to avoid any misunderstanding.
At the same time, GPS reiterates its neutral stance and non-interference in the Sabah election.
The statement came following Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing’s attendance at several Pakatan Harapan (PH)-linked programmes in Sabah in conjunction with its State election.
Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) have issued their respective statements on the matter. — DayakDaily
