PONTIANAK, July 6: The proposed direct flight route between Kuching, Sarawak and Pontianak, Indonesia is currently awaiting approval from the country’s Ministry of Transportation.
Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji, said he has already deliberated on the matter with the top leadership of AirAsia airlines through a video call yesterday.
“Now it is up to the Ministry of Transportation (Indonesia).
“I have written and talked to them. It is a need for us to connect Kuching, Pontianak and Jakarta. This can be done. It is not a problem,” he said when responding to a reporter’s query during a courtesy call with Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA) delegation at his office here today.
To date, there is no direct flight route between the cities of Kuching and Pontianak.
The only route available is by land transportation, where travelers have to book an 8-hour bus ride between the two cities through the Tebedu-Entikong border or they can opt to drive their own vehicle with some additional fees for immigration processes.
Also present were Consul General of Malaysia in Pontianak, Azizul Zekri Abd Rahim; Alexandri Legawa, Staff of Protocol and Consular Section from Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching; Persatuan Wartawan Indonesia (PWI) Kalimantan Barat president Gusti Yusri; FSJA president Andy Jong Wan Joon and FSJA vice president II, Jacqueline David. — DayakDaily
