KUCHING, April 3: A proposal to rebuild the Lundu District Police Headquarters (IPD) is under review as a strategic measure to strengthen security infrastructure and improve services for the local community.
Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, who is also Santubong MP, said the proposal was submitted by IPD Lundu through the District Police Chief Supt Sudirman Kram, with two potential sites identified near the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) Lundu.
She stressed that the plan is still in its early stages and requires careful study, including State approval and land ownership considerations.
“The proposed locations are opposite and beside the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEX) Lundu.
“However, the plan is still at an early stage and requires further study, including Sarawak government approval, particularly regarding land ownership,” Nancy was quoted by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) as saying at a media briefing following her official working visit today.
She also explained that proposals for a new IPD must follow formal procedures, including submission to the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) for review of necessity and cost implications.
In a related development, the Sematan Police Station redevelopment project under the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) has been approved at a cost of RM2 million. The project involves replacing the existing wooden structure with a permanent building and is currently at the pre-implementation stage.
During her visit, Nancy also oversaw the handover of equipment under the NS Caring Network Program, including canopies, chairs, and tables to support IPD Lundu’s operations and community initiatives. From 2023 to 2025, a total of RM836,101 has been allocated to support police logistics and community needs, including public address systems and solar lights.
Also present were National Welfare Foundation chief executive officer Nordina Haron, Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM) director Mohd Ali Taib, and Lundu district police chief Supt Sudirman Kram. — DayakDaily
