SIBU, June 22: The first six months of the year have been busy for the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue (Bomba) Station as it attended to a total of 10 fires involving property in areas under its jurisdiction.
This is an increase of two cases as compared to the same period of January to June last year.
Head of the Sungai Merah Bomba Station, Mutalif Ja’afar in an interview said property fire cases involved shophouses, factories and residential houses where the seriousness of the damage varied depending on the building materials and the building structure.
As a precautionary measure, Mutalif advised the public to take proactive measures to prevent any such incidents from occurring.
“Every household should have a fire extinguisher prepared to slow down the spread of a fire while waiting for assistance,” he said.
In addition, homeowners are also advised not to store flammable appliances or materials in the room, turn off electrical switches when not in use, avoid making their own electrical wiring connections and also attending talks or fire prevention training to get more detailed information.
Meanwhile, he revealed that Bomba Sungai Merah also attended to a total of eight road accident cases in the first six months of this year compared to 13 cases until June last year.
However, he said in the same period, forest fire cases recorded a decrease of 17 cases so far compared to 32 cases in the same period last year.
Besides that, the station had also carried out 120 various special service operations compared to 151 in the same period last year. — DayakDaily
